Kinship Care Connection (KCC) is a school-based, best practice model, that supports caregivers in addressing some of their most commonly voiced concerns: academic performance, emotional and social challenges, behavior problems, and special education placements. Services are provided to both the caregiver and their children.
KCC is a school-based intervention that provides children with supportive services, while connecting kinship caregivers with the school system through support groups, personal advocacy, and linkage to services and resources.
The Kinship Care Connection provides services for:
Children: tutoring, mentoring, support groups, and individual interventions.
Caregivers: support groups, case management, problem solving for school related challenges, and school based advocacy.
Schools: training, consultation, with teachers and administrators, liaison between schools and caregivers.
In recent years, the KCC, in conjunction with other programs and service providers, has been able to:
- Provide several elementary children with backpacks full of school supplies via partnership with a program called "Kits for Kids".
|
- Provide many children with mentors, one-on-one academic services, and intensive therapeutic interventions.
|
- Hold support groups for the entire family, and continued the emotional support through routine phone calls and home visits to ensure caregivers always had a listening ear.
